Geeking Out In Portland

For Thanksgiving, my husband an I have decided to spend several days in Portland, Oregon. I know that my husband would like to spend at least one day exploring the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, but I’m excited because Portland is know for being a destination that has a strong geek culture. So, I’ve been trying to find some of the “must see” places for a geek like me to hit up while I’m in the city. One thing that I’m hoping I’ll be able to get to is the Free Play party at Ground Kontrol Classic Arcade.

Ground Kontrol is an arcade with over 60 classic video games and 27 pinball machines as well as a full-service bar. On the 2nd Thursday and the last Wednesday of every month, the arcade makes all the machines free-to-play and instead charges an admission fee of $5.

But that’s not all…because Thursday, November 26 is Thanksgiving, the arcade’s Indie Game night (usually on the last Thursday of the month) is a day early. Perfect!

I’m really looking forward to exploring the geekier side of Portland. Do you have any suggestions of other places I should look into?
